Wherever there is a need, some enterprising person will rise to the occasion and come up with a solution.  We all have become so dependent upon our smart phones, tablets and other portable devices, particularly when traveling.  But what if our battery is running low.  That could be a problem.  Fortunately, wherever you are while traveling you will be able to find places where you can recharge your smart phone or portable device’s batteries.  Kiosks in airports and hotels that provide this service are commonplace.  There is only one problem.  Some of these recharging kiosks are set up by identity thieves who along with recharging your batteries, steal all of the information from your smart phone or other portable device and make you a victim of identity theft.

TIPS

The safest thing to do is to avoid these kiosks and use your own recharger to keep your smart phone or other device fully charged.  If that is not possible, you should at least speak to someone involved with security at the hotel, airport or other venue where the kiosk is found to confirm that it is legitimate.  Additionally, you should make sure that all of the data in your smart phone or portable device is encrypted and that your smart phone or portable device is protected with the latest security software and that the software is kept up to date.  Trust me, you can’t trust anyone.
