Regular readers of Scamicide.com will remember the July 25th Scam of the day in which I told you about the recall by Fiat Chrysler of approximately 1.4 million vehicles vulnerable to being hacked through the Uconnect car system that transmits information over the Internet.  Manipulation of this system put drivers in potential danger of a hacker remotely controlling their cars.  Now Fiat Chrysler is announcing a supplemental recall of 8,000 more Jeeps for a similar vulnerability.  The new recall relates to 2015 Jeep Renegade SUVs with 6.5 inch touchscreens.

TIPS

If you have a 2015 Jeep Renegade SUV and want to check to see if your car is one of those affected by the recall, you can click on this link and input your Vehicle Identification Number to learn if your car is one of those recalled.  If so, you can download the corrective software yourself or have your Fiat Chrysler dealer perform the update for you at no cost.  In addition, you will also receive a USB device for adding additional security features to your car.  http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/

Although the Fiat Chrysler recalls are the first of cars for hacking vulnerabilities, they will certainly not be the last as the Internet of Things still has numerous security weaknesses in the many products which we use that are Internet connected.
