Many of us have received automatic robocalls from either “Heather” or “Rachel” who says she is from card services and will obtain for you a lower interest on your credit card. Thousands of people fell for this scam. These kinds of automatic dialed telemarketing robocalls are illegal, but that does not stop the many scammers who have been using this technique to steal people’s money. In return for an upfront fee, Heather or Rachel promised they could lower your credit card interest and if you did not save the guaranteed amount, they would provide you with a total refund. The truth is that the company did little or nothing to lower your credit card rates and they didn’t refund the money of their scammed victims. Fortunately, the FTC got involved and obtained a court judgment by which money will be returned to the victims by the Federal Trade Commission. If you were scammed, you should be receiving your check shortly. If you do not, you should call the FTC at its redress hotline at 866-224-5404.

Whenever you get an automated robocall it is illegal, so it is obviously from someone with a disregard for the law and this should make you immediately skeptical. Hang up. There is no reason to believe anything the are saying or offering. Sometimes they will tell you that if you don’t want further calls to touch a certain number on your phone. Don’t do it. All this does is let the scammer know they have an active, working number.
